I'll resist the obvious Titanic gags but this is quite a change in approach for Jim Cameron. His more traditionally cartoony art style and heavily accented dialogue have been replaced by a more linear graphic & the non-existent plot is now entirely autobiographical. However, Cameron avoids the egotistical ravings like Matt Howarth & chooses not to create stories based upon his life. Instead we are presented with what is essentially an illustrated diary that appears often to be created during the events that are actually chronicled. The art is attractive & clear, Cameron comes across well & the project at first seems quite dense & off-putting, but once you start reading it, you soon get sucked in. A surprisingly light, fresh autobiographical piece that throws up enjoyable little moments with nearly every page. Recommended. Nigel Lowrey. |
