An anthology of war stories from three other small
press comics, all of which are advertised on the inside back cover and look interesting
to say the least. The six tales here are well-written and compassionate, dealing
with past wars and relating them to the present day in a realistic fashion, even
the one doing a Captain America spoof. The drawing is a bit primitive, but that's
preferable to aping mainstream slickness-this way, they'll retain their own distinctive
styles as their skills increase, as they surely must if they continue to work
as hard as they evidently are doing. The production values and presentation of
the zine as a whole are good, with clever use made of colour separation on the
glossy white cover. All that's needed is the insertion of an erratum slip for the bottom left-hand panel of page 1 of "Smokes" where the two names in a crucial speech balloon are in the wrong order although the meaning is still clear. Recommended. Bib Edwards |
